Everything You Need to Know About Baby Sun Protection

☀️ Everything You Need to Know About Baby Sun Protection

Why is sun protection so important for babies?

Did you know that up to 80% of lifetime sun damage happens during childhood? A baby’s skin is thinner, more delicate, and contains less melanin—the natural pigment that helps protect against UV rays—making it much more vulnerable to sun damage, even with short exposure.

Even if you’re not planning a full day at the beach, your baby can be exposed to sun during a stroller walk, in the car, or while sitting on the porch.

So how much sunscreen does a baby need?

It's recommended to apply at least one full teaspoon of sunscreen to cover the body, plus a bit more for the face and other exposed areas.

And here’s something most people don’t know:
Higher SPF doesn’t mean longer protection. Both SPF 30 and SPF 50 need to be reapplied every 2 hours.

So what really matters is applying the right amount, and reapplying often — not just picking the highest number.

Then why does it say "from 6 months"?

The AAP recommend avoiding direct sun exposure for babies under 6 months — not because *mineral* sunscreen is unsafe, but because their skin is so sensitive that it’s better to avoid the need for sunscreen altogether.

That’s why many baby sunscreens (including ours) say “from 6 months.”

But the truth is, our mineral-based sunscreen uses only safe, natural ingredients like non-nano Zinc Oxide, with no parabens,  and no harmful additives — making it safe for use from birth, especially on small exposed areas like the face, hands, and feet.

We label it as “6 months and up” to align with official guidelines — but in practice, it’s a gentle and safe option for younger babies when exposure is unavoidable.
